WISPA Educational Institute Strengthens WISP Industry with Training, Best Practices, and Charitable Giving

Washington, DC, March 25, 2025 – The WISPA Educational Institute (WEI), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is dedicated to empowering Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs) by providing essential resources, training, and industry best practices. WEI fosters collaboration among industry leaders to enhance connectivity, operational excellence, and broadband expansion to millions of Americans, particularly in rural, under-resourced, and Tribal communities.

“Every American deserves access to the Internet, no matter where they live. WISPs play an integral role in keeping people connected, especially in hard-to-serve areas,” said David Zumwalt, WEI Executive Director and WISPA CEO. “WEI provides the tools and expertise to ensure reliable, resilient, and future-ready broadband services.”

Founded in 2020 by WISPA – The Association for Broadband Without Boundaries, WEI serves as an open-access hub for WISP professionals, offering state-of-the-art training, best practices, and charitable giving initiatives. By strengthening and sharing industry knowledge, WEI helps WISPs enhance service quality and expand broadband access across the U.S.

The WEI website acts as the online host and library, providing useful information – such as regulatory and operational guidance documents, PowerPoints, podcasts and webinars, and even WISPA educational show content – to anyone with Internet access.

WEI’s committees are run by WISPA staff and Board Members and guide the Institute’s operations, educational programs and charitable outreach. WEI’s three standing committees are:

  • BEST PRACTICES COMMITTEE
Develops industry best practices and operational standards of use for WISPs and the ecosystem at large.
  • EDUCATION COMMITTEE
Works to inform WISPA members and external audiences of the many informational and other resources available to and from the WISP industry.
  • FUTURE SOLUTIONS COMMITTEE
Serves to encourage, advance, and educate about up-and-coming technologies, methodologies, applications, and means of deploying communications solutions.

All participation in WEI is strictly voluntary. If you would like to participate, please contact Richard Bernhardt at rbernhardt@wispa.org. WEI is free and open to all in the WISP industry.
